An international jury met in Barcelona on July 27, 2013, composed of distinguished painters Jacob Collins, Gottfried Helnvvein, Antonio López, Eduardo Naranjo, Odd Nerdrum, the critic Thomas Walls, the gallerist James S. Echeberría, chaired by architect José Manuel Infiesta, after appropriate deliberations, decided, by majority, granted the first prize in Figurative Painting, 2013, a competition organized and promoted by the Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes, the painter Carlos Morago.
Also, after selecting 76 works, which are those that form part of the exhibition of the prize, the jury decided by majority to grant Honorable Mentions to the following authors: James Mayor, Eduardo Alsasua, Salvador Antunez del Cerro, María José Cortés, Deangel Roberto Ferri, Marco and Jaime Alejandro Valero.
In this 7th edition of the Awards Figurative Painting and Sculpture, a total of 2270 artists from around the world taking part, presenting 2360 works of a very high quality in digital format, which made a shortlist of 330 works tried and examined physically by the jury. Edurado Naranjo, a painter and a Figurativas' 13 jury member, explains the criteria used when voting for the works: "A painting that has a message, that the artist is confessing in, wishing to say something and achieving it. This is what surprises us and gets us voting in favour of a work".
